How To Play Contract Rummy: Tips And Tricks.
Contract Rummy is basically a class of Rummy Games which share a set of features like you will have a different contract in each round and the players in the game are allowed to meld only when they collect a particular combination of groups and sequences. There are many variations of the Contract Rummy Game, some of which include Carioca Rummy, King Rummy, Liverpool Rummy, Continental Rummy, Progressive Rummy etc. In contract 3 to 8 players can play for themselves. If 3 or 4 players play the game then the deck may contain 2 decks of 52 cards each with a joker. For 5 and more players, 3 decks of 52 cards are used along with 2 jokers.
The deck is then shuffled and then each player is allowed to draw a card. Then the player which draws the lowest card deals first. Ten cards are dealt to each player in the first four deals. Then in deals from 5 to 7, players receive 12 cards. After the deal, a card is turned up and the rest is called the stock. Generally a game has seven deals, and in all the deals, the main objective is to complete a certain meld which is called a Contract. Now the one who lays all his cards first wins the hand. The player, who makes the lowest score after all the seven deals, usually wins the game.
In the game of Contract Rummy there are two types of melds: Sequences sometimes called as runs, and groups also called books or sets. Generally a sequence has atleast 4 consecutive cards from the same suit. A group on the other hand consists of 3 cards from the same rank, not considering the suit. Now when one of the player goes out by means of disposing all his cards, the remaining players get penalty points for all such remaining in their hands. The main contract in each successive round is as follows: two groups of three which has a total of 6 cards, a group of three cards and a sequence of 4 which amounts to 7 cards, two sequences of four cards, three groups of 3 cards, then two groups of three and one sequence of four cards, a group of 3 and two sequences of four and finally three sequences of four and no discards.
Now let us understand how scoring is done in the game of Contract Rummy. When a hand comes to an end, every individual player scores the sum of all the cards in his hand. Note that the joker has 25 points. The Contract Rummy game proceeds with all the above mentioned sequence and at the end of seven deals the one with the fewest points becomes the winner of the game. The rules of the other variations of the game may be slightly different but equally enjoyable. So this is how a game of Contract Rummy can be played.
