The game of Rummy has become very popular of late and many people across the world play and enjoy the game. You also might have played it sometime. So are you interested to know about the history of Rummy? If yes, read on. Actually there are many theories about the history of the Rummy game.

Some of the players of the game believe that Rummy originated in either Asia or Mexico. Some even believe in its history about originating from Romania and Spain. The Spanish card game called Conquian Bares has a very close resemblance with Gin Rummy. And Gin Rummy is considered to be the oldest of all Rummy games. It is believed that the game of Conquian Bares traveled to America and then took the shape of Rummy.

There are also groups of people who believe that todays Rummy was actually a descendent of the famous poker games. It is said that Rummy has been derived from the “Whiskey Poker” game which is now known as Rum poker. Even today some people refer Gin Rummy as Gin Poker. Coming to China and Japanese link up with the history of Rummy. A game called Hanafuda was traditionally played in China which was brought to the country by the Portuguese. This game became a very popular gambling game later on. There are also some roots of the Rummy game in Japanese history.

So we see that there are a lot of places which happen to trace the roots of the present day Rummy game. And in the book called “History of Gin Rummy”, the Chinese and Japanese theory of origin. In reality the game of Rummy has traveled across continents today and is being played and enjoyed by many today.
